Foreign Office to Professor Caldecott.

Foreign Office, March 11, 1910. I AM directed by Secretary Sir Edward Grey to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th ultimo, enclosing a printed copy of a memorial in regard to the attitude of His Majesty's Government towards the opium traffic question, together with the names of the signatories and the letters in support of the memorial from professors, lecturers, and writers in ethics, and to transmit to you herewith a copy of a letter which was addressed by the Secretary of State to the Edinburgh Committee in December last, in reply to similar representatious. This communication represents fully the views of His Majesty's Government in the matter.

I am to add that Sir F. Grey has no objection to the publication of the memorial and of the accompanying documents.
